Sootie

Half-asleep but always defending the hotly contested territory that is the blanket by the radiator.

Quoque Magnus Mihi Teneo

I used to fantasize about small cameras with insanely great optics, something that would fit between my little paws, that I could document the world with, something, actually, not unlike the Panasonic DMC-FZ7 with its 12x optical zoom endorsed by Leica, that Postie brought to my door this morning.

And, though it's beautiful and often surprising in its capabilities, I'm beginning to think that, somehow, inperceivably, I've got used to the world being considerably bigger than me, got used to it not fitting. And, actually, it's becoming strangely comforting. Like a baggy sweater. Or an Olympus E-1.

In Her Majesty's Secret Service (1969), George Lazonby masquerading as James Bond told us that his family motto was 'Orbis non sufficit' ('The World Is Not Enough'), a fine sentiment, for sure, but not one for the likes of me. So today, just a week before the new Casino Royale movie premieres, I thought I'd get me a motto of my very own: 'Quoque Magnus Mihi Teneo'. It, is of course, a translation of a line from Christina Rossetti's Goblin Market, and it means 'Too huge for me to hold'.
